︎INTRODUCTION
“Magpie's Bridge” is a collaborative light art project which is designed and exhibited during Glow Festival Eindhoven 2020. As a Chinese-cultural representative group (ACSSE), we combine technology, art and traditional culture to build meaningful social and cultural “connections” with local (Dutch) communities.
︎CONCEPT
"We are a whole, like the magpies constantly bridge friendships and strive for a better future together."
The two magpies in the artwork symbolize the main theme “connection”:
The magpie is a bird that symbolizes 'happiness' in East Asian culture. In Chinese folklore, this bird is also a symbol of harmonious unity, love and relationship. The annual Qixi festival celebrates the fact that all magpies once flew to the Tianhe River and formed a bridge over this river with their wings, so that the separated lovers, the cowherd and the weaver, could meet again on the magpie bridge . The two magpies in the artwork symbolize the main theme 'connection'.

︎DESIGN PROCESS & TECHNIQUE
_3D Modelling
_3D Printing
In this team project, 3D printing was used as the main technique. This creates a compelling animated effect with laser light. With rotation, the illuminated cross-section will vary and two separate magpies will fly towards each other and eventually meet on a branch.
